Brenda's Biography

Brenda is an enterprising and rising fashion Icon. She was born in Teso eastern Uganda in 1981 and raised by her mother Elizabeth who has been a great fashion inspiration in her life. Her mother always made clothes for the family and although she went to pursue a career in another field, she still provides advice as a stylist.

Brenda loves and studied art in school. One of her fondest memories as a student is designing costumes for school plays and beauty pageants.

She attended both Namasagali and Nabbingo colleges respectively before living for the UK to pursue a degree in Fashion design.
In 2001 she attended Newham College of futher education where she attained a BTEC foundation degree in Art and Design. Then in 2002 she joined the London academy of design and dressmaking where she took a fashion design program which completed in 2005

In 2006 Brenda also completed two other courses in millinery design and lingerie design.

Brenda started work as a freelance designer in 2002 but it was not until 2004 that she made her maiden runway showcase during the Uganda international fashion week. Since then she has participated in a number of fashion events including the recent launch of K-Models agency in Kampala and an annual fashion show in London.

Philanthropy is very important to Brenda and has used her gifting to host an annual fashion show in London in conjunction with the Iteso welfare association (UK) in aid of “sponsor a displaced child project for children displaced by the war in northern and eastern Uganda.

She has also recently short a documentary film highlighting the positive impact of the tools donated by Iteso welfare association to kasilo youth training centre.
Brenda has featured in several leading publications in Uganda and the UK including Icon magazine, The New vision and Monitor news papers and in 2006 Brenda was featured by the leading ethnic minority business magazine in the UK as “an exceptionally talented rising fashion icon in London”

In January 2007 Brenda officially launched brendamaraka as a fashion label with the aim of representing Uganda as a tropical country and extending Kampala as an international fashion hub.

Since then she has made several appearances on national TV stations in Uganda including the style with Keturah show on UBC TV and the Art & Design show on Nation TV (NTV) as well as an appearance on international TV station EATV on the Nirvana show

Brenda has also written articles for the prestigious women’s magazine Flair for her and is currently the magazine make up artist.

She also loves to develop and inspire others through extending her skills to groom talented and interested students in fashion design. In 2007 she conducted a development project with youth in kasilo eastern Uganda and she has also worked as a university lecturer at Kyambogo University in Kampala teaching fashion drawing skills as well as customized garment construction.

As a woman of many virtues she is also a gifted singer, dancer and evangelist
